Myrsilk males, by their very nature, lean more towards the strength and power side of the spectrum. Titles are given by how well a male manages to complete a set of challenges given to him by the male elders. Often, these challenges revolve around feats of strength and stamina that require the male to push himself to the limits in order to best his competition. These titles, just like the female equivilants, are for life, or until the Myrsilkain decides to retire. The challenges are open to all males the believe themselves fit enough for it.
Appearance-wise, they're a bit stockier than their female counterparts, though not enough that the difference is widely remarked upon, and their tails are generally a bit shorter than the tails of the females. Their markings and crest differ from the markings and crest on the females.
One of the things that differentiates males and females are their powers. The males are the sorcerers, their strength resting in their ability to weild their powers directly, in the form of spells, though at the same time it limits what they can do, as often, in a magical fight between a male and female, a female will easily last longer with the aid of her summoned helpers. Spells, especially for those with lower power levels, are often accompanied by spoken or thought chants (or keys, some simpler spells require only a 'key', which is often a one or two syllable word) and gestures (many males use their tails to gesture with). Males, too, can summon creatures or elementals, though it takes them much more power than it does the females.
The markings also differentiates males and females from each other. Following is a chart of the markings found on males.
Marking | Location |
On the forehead | |
Side of the nose, at the very tip, on both sides
Under the eyes, on both sides
On the chest | |
On the shoulder of both wingarms
On the shoulder of both front legs
Around the barrel just behind the front legs. The markings extend under the body and up both sides |
|
Near the tip of the tail, just before the tailbarbs. The markings encircle the tail. |
The male ranking system consists of a mere three ranks, that are only referred to in times of high formality. From highest to lowest, these are:
Gifted
A Myrsilk male with rainbow markings, denoting that he can cast spells from any of the elements. They, just like their female counterparts, are strongest in the element that is represented by their body coloration.
High
A male with more than one color of marking, but less than the full rainbow, can cast spells from two or more of the elements. (But not all) Again, they're strongest in the element that their body coloration represents.
Simple
A male with one color on his markings. he can cast spells from that element alone, and no others.
There are five different titles in total, and great respect is (normally) given to those that hold the highest titles. There will always be the occasional rebel, of course. From highest to lowest, the titles are:
Sorcerer
The official male leader of the clan, only one of these.
Magician
The Sorcerer's second in command, only one of these as well.
Wizard
Next highest of the titles, there can be anywhere from two to three of these, usually being ordered as First Wizard, Second Wizard, etc.
Enchanter
Fourth of the titles, with anywhere from two to five Enchanters, ordered just like the Wizards are.
Shamans
What every other male is, no ordering for this title, they're just Shamans
Scholar
Simultaneously lower in rank than a Shaman, and higher in prestige than a Sorcerer, Scholars are often rovers who have dedicated their lives to learning the Memory-Songs of different Clans, so that none may forget the history of the race, and all may know what has occurred elsewhere. Scholar is a gender-neutral title given to males or females that take up this role.
Here is an example of an adult male. This is Sorcerer Revent'akel, considered a High Ice in rank.
