Alevaharin broods are rather a-typical for draconic creatures, being as they give birth to live young. The young at birth are about the size of a typical, full grown house-cat, and are almost uniformly colored a grayish brown, no matter what their adult coloration will be. The only exceptions to this are albinos (feline) and jet black (equine), which are born that color and stay that color.
The young, known as Kitlings, do not bond when they are born, as they're born blind and fairly weak. No one, except for the sire (and occasionally the bond of the dam), is permitted to witness the actual birth, or even step into the Nest-room for a length of time of about a week following the birth. The sire always keeps strict watch, guarding the Nest-room usually, though he will leave his post to hunt for both himself and his mate. When he's gone, either another female will keep watch, or the dam herself will bar the doorway.
About a week after the Kitlings are born, they open their eyes, which are typically a bright blue in color, another thing that all Kitlings have in common, with the only exceptions, again, being albino (pink eyes) and jet black (emerald eyes), which will stay those colors.
At this point, the sire and dam relax their guard somewhat, and allow others a brief glimpse of the Kitlings. This is the first time, usually, that any bonds that the sire and dam have are allowed to view the Kitlings, though it has been known, on occasion, for the bond of the dam to retreat into the Nest-room and assist her bond in caring for the Kitlings from birth. Kitlings never speak their names, not even to their dam, until later.
Several weeks later, the Kitlings begin to shed their first coat, and show their adult colorations. At this point, they're usually around the size of an adult lion and are ready to begin eating solid foods. This is also when the dam herds her brood into another chamber and the potential bonders are presented to the Kitlings. This is the first time that they speak their names to anyone.
Being furred creatures that give birth to live young, the Alevaharin have a general dislike of hatching sands. Instead, their Nest-rooms are just that, large rooms with soft materials spread over the entire floor, usually around 3 to 4 feet deep. In the wild, these 'rooms' - often caves or burrows - are padded with fur that the dam and sire pull off their own bodies. When the Alevaharin are found in combination with humans or humanoids, though, their rooms are often built for the specific purpose by the humanoids, and are typically lined with large, thick blankets made for that single purpose.
Humans never stay long in the Nest-room, except for the bond of dam, though they can look in - briefly - on the dam and the Kitlings after the one week period is over. It's important to note, though, that quite often some of the Kitlings will hide from people, while others may be entirely too curious about people.
On the day of the bonding, the dam herds her brood out of the Nest-room for the first time in their lives. Some of them will be energetic and curious about everything, while others will stick close to their dam until she nudges them forward. The bonding is typically a rather private affair, with only the dam, the sire, their bonds (if they have any), the Kitlings, and the potential bonders as witness. On the other hand, though, there will occasionally be an fairly small audience that are given the privilage of watching the bonding. Audience members will likely be relatives/friends of the bonders, other Alevaharin and their bonds, and possibly leaders/representatives of other agencies.
Most would think that such an occasion as a bonding would be rather solomn, but that is not the case often enough. Children will be children, no matter what race they're from, and the Kitlings are no exception.
Kitlings grow at a slower pace than the Myrsilk, mostly because they don't have to reach the same massive sizes. In general, they'll reach half of their adult size by the time that they're a year and a half old, and at three years of age will reach their full height. During their first year and a half of growth, they'll require aid from their bond/caretaker (if they have one) or from another Alevaharin (if they don't have a bond or specified humanoid caretaker) to keep their fur unmatted and orderly (some will be very vain about it, and demand a lot of time from their bond/caretaker, even after they've reached their adult size, others will have to be pushed into it).
Kitlings have no conscious control over their powers, which at that point are fairly weak, luckily. Small outbursts might occur on occasion, with increasing regularily as they get closer to their Adolescent stage of growth.
Once they reach the year and a half mark, the Adolescent Alevaharin begin to practice flying, often watched and taught by either their sire or their dam, or occasionally both. This is the point, too, where they begin to slowly get their powers under conscious control, again, aided and taught by either their sir or their dam, no matter what their powers are.
At three years of age, they are considered Adults by the clan. Typically, they will have most of the finer points of their powers down, and they will easily be able to fly with their bonds anywhere.
