Rakelo

A cold, practical man when it's demanded of him, Rak stands proudly at his Captain's side, still in his position as trusted Second. He and Kallis work side by side with the flawless perfection of long-time partners, words barely needing to be spoken between them, and this ease of companionship has led to the generation of many rumors about them being together romantically. Rak views these rumors with amusement - while he loves Kallis, he loves the man as a brother, not a lover, but leaves the rumors be... after all, they're not harming anything, and people always need something to whisper about.

Rak is viewed as a hard task-master, often harder than Kallis, because it is Rak who doubles as Training Master, and Rak who puts everyone, Guard and Protector and Guardian alike, through their paces as often as he can. Underneath his cold exterior, Rak is worried about how few warriors they have on hand, and consequently pushes the others as hard as possible. In his rare free time, he enjoys, of all things, music, and can often be found in Kallis' quarters, playing a harp or lute while his friend cooks a meal for the two of them. He has the same wicked sense of humor that Kallis has, though he hides it just as often.

Rakelo grew up alongside Kallis, taking the same lessons, earning the same commendations, advancing through the same ranks side by side. Though it was attempted several times to split the two boys, their superiors soon learned that, while alone they were individually impressive, together they were unstopable.

It was that same unstopable teamwork that eventually kept Rak one rank below Kallis, so that Rak could continue to be Kallis' Second. He doesn't begrudge Kallis that, either, seeing it as a necessary means to the ends they both desire.
