Zahndar, Kaesirl of the Sky
"Does it matter where I'm from? I'm the Kaesirl, the uncontested leader of the Avarir, the Naktar of the Sky. That's all you need to know about me."
Name: | Zahndar |
Race: | Naktar (Subrace: Avarir (Sky)) |
Rank: | Kaesirl of the Sky |
Gender: | Male |
Eyes: | Sapphire Blue |
Hair: | Midnight black |
Age: | Unknown |
Personality |
Zahndar is a distant and often reserved sort, even to his own kind, and resents it when others attempt to become his companion, friend, or lover. Though not precisely violent or cruel, he is, above all, one who believes in expediency, and if that means the death of those who dare to get in his way, then he'll shed no tears over their bodies, even if they were friends or lovers at some point. Those who become close to him see little more than the world does. Perhaps he thaws his ever-present chill slightly, or graces them with a real smile, but no one ever sees his inner emotions or desires or doubts. Even Kavaer, his oldest and closest friend, has only barely touched on who Zahndar is beyond the icy mask and dominating will. Inside, Zahndar is not quite as controlled as he appears on the outside. He hates being controlled or dominated with a passion that borders nearly on psychosis, but his retaliations are always executed coldly, thoroughly, and with a general lack of violence. His duties as a Kaesirl weigh heavily on him, but he refuses to abandon those Naktar who were Promised to him, even now, and regrets his utter lack of ability to shatter the bonds that had been placed upon him for so many millennia. Even more galling was the small part of him that didn't wish to break the bonds and return to a world that was slowly slipping through the Naktar's grasp. But now, having been freed by a greedy human, a much weakened and distant descendant of the beings that had bound he and his in the first place, Zahndar desires nothing more than revenge and the return of the Aeon of Shadows. He trusts himself and, as Kavaer is soulbound to him, Kavaer as well, but no others. |
Description |
A creature of a past that is rarely spoken of, even in myths, Zahndar reflects that in his appearance and dress. Midnight black hair is left long and loose, and constantly reacts to an unseen tendril of breeze that touches only the very tips and tugs lightly at them. Unnatural as that is, perhaps more so is how his sapphire blue eyes catch and fragment the light, even the faintest of glows, almost like a cut jewel does. His body is tall and fine-boned, with silver-blue skin that catches and often reflects light in a dizzying pattern about him, almost like mirrored scales. Zahndar's hands have a dramatic tendency to catch the light, as the backs are actually covered in tiny mirrored scales with sharp, razor fine edges. His fingers are tipped in a large version of these scales in place of nails as a human would have, as such, they're always of a specific length and shed regularly instead of growing and breaking off. Zahndar wears flowing, lengthy clothes similar to robes in dark or muted colors, his typical of which being along the lines of black with a border of a dark, icy blue. The back of his robes are often patterned with a distinctive sigil which represents his common name. When he wishes it, Zahndar can unfurl massive wings covered in the same silver-blue mirror scales as his hands and ascend into the sky. The wings are folded within his back, and must pass through the skin in order to emerge, a sight which many find disturbing but that, for him, actually isn't painful or even bloody. |
History: |
Zahndar's history is as obscured as his emotions. Not one member of his kind knows exactly from where he rose to claim the title and duties of Kaesirl of the Sky. All that is known is that, when the old Kaesirl died and the challenge for succession was given, he appeared as if from nothing, working his way through the challenges to claim the title of Kaesirl. Even Kavaer knows nothing more of Zahndar's past than that. As the Kaesirl, Zahndar ruled well and, some would argue, fairly, leading those who were Promised to him to greater heights of power, and quietly destroying any who would challenge he or his people or, on a broader scale, his race. Zahndar was one of the few who recognized the path that the world was taking before anything drastic happened, but, despite his attempts to sway his peers, fewer still would listen to his premonitions of the Naktar falling and the Gandiar, a passing amusement to many Naktar, rising in their place. It was with bitter hatred that he watched one after another Kaesirl fall into the hands of the Gandiar, but was forced to retreat further from the light and heat that was being created by the slow destruction of everything his race had built. In desperation, he led his Promised high into the remotest of mountain ranges, using their combined powers to create an environment suitable to them, then began planning how to release his brethren from the seals they had been trapped within and how to destroy the Gandiar from the face of the planet. The Gandiar, though, were relentless, and slowly whittled away at his powerbase, until it was only he and Kavaer left unsealed of his race, then gathered a group of their strongest to assault his last stronghold. It was with pride that he and his soulsworn partner destroyed the entire party, but not in time to save themselves from the sealing spell that had been cast. Now, released after several millennia and unleashed on a world that has neither the power nor the memory to even attempt to fight back, Zahndar's only goal is find and unleash his Promised Naktar upon the unsuspecting world, to take it back for the Naktar after it had been wrongfully taken from them. |
