Coming to a New Home
From the moment of hatching, he knew that there were no dragons for him upon the sands of Lantessama. And yet he waited to allow his Crystal Gray sibling the opportunity to find his caretaker, before he, too, arose from his spot and moved towards the feeding tables.
"I am sorry, I am not meant for any of you left here. I shall try my luck in the Realm of the Myrsilk. My name is Ghyreon."
So saying, the snowflake patterned Winter Blue picked up a piece of meat and, after devouring it without seeming to chew, took off into flight, winking out with only a small puff of snowy flakes that rained down from where he had vanished.
The place that he found himself above when he winked back into the world was a large crescent of rock, with three large towers arranged in the center. Allowing himself to glide down into the center of the complex, he looked about with awe. Everything was so very large...
Hello! What's your name?
"Ghyreon." He turned and sat on his haunches, looking up at the one that had addressed him.
The dragonness that had spoken smiled, I'm Jaelithasia. Are you lost?
Ghyreon flicked his tail, folding his glider wings against his body, "Well... sort of. I am here to find myself a home, as there was no bond for me at my hatching."
Jaelithasia nodded, Alright! Come on, then, and I'll give you a den you can use. She looked down at him with faint amusement, Though I think I might have to ask the Earths around here to make you a special den, you're not even near the size of one of the Myrsilkains.
With that, she turned and lead him off into the complex, to find a den that could possibly be comfortable for one so small.
To Seek the Lost
Somewhat boredly, Ghyreon relaxed in his custom made den. Jaeli's words had proven true, in any of the dens that she had taken him too, he was uncomfortable. Things were too large for him, in the entire clan. And now... well, now he was bored. There was little enough for a bondless non-myrsilkain to do, and it grated on his nerves to be completely without tasks, or even something to keep his mind off of his boredom.
And so he took to wandering and listening...
Just as he was doing at the current moment. Large ears flicking from side to side, he walked slowly along the edge of the corridor. Several doorways he passed by, unwilling to listen to the private conversations that were going on within them, but at one...
"Have you been able to track down any of our missing eggs?"
The words, so softly spoken and filled with so many mixed emotions that he could not seperate one from the other, stopped Ghyreon dead in his tracks. Missing eggs? What was going on?
"No... not a single one. Rumors, myths... I hear it all, but I cannot track any of them down successfully." The speaker sighed heavily, "Never before have I wished to have a human bond."
"None of the others are doing much better either... even those with human bonds. We just... don't know where to begin searching. The universe is so vast and there are so few of us that can go out and search..."
Ghyreon blinked, both ears perked up and pointing towards the doorway. Hesitantly, unsure as to whether or not the two dragons that were speaking would be happy about his barging into what was probably a private conversation, he stepped forward and slipped into the room. The two dragons that he faced, while not the largest dragons in the clan, were huge compared to him. With the knowledge of experience, he noted the difference between the two... a Female Earth and a Male Wood...
"Ah... excuse me, but I could not help but overhear your conversation. What do you mean by 'missing eggs'?"
The two dragons looked down at him, the male's eyes narrowing, though it was the female that responded, "We Myrsilkains that are here are what remains of over fourty Clans that were scattered about the universe. None of us know what happened to our clans, and we probably never will." Her tail lashed at the air in anger, "And almost all of our clans had clutches on the sands, which have vanished as well, but by the hands of greedy humanoids, not by whatever mysterious force banished all of our kin!"
Ghyreon winced back slightly at the anger in the female's voice, but still spoke what was on his mind, "You spoke of not having enough dragons to search. Why, then, could you not go out and actively gather other dragons to you, and ask them to help you search?"
The two dragons exchanged looks. This time, it was the male that responded, "What other dragons? Except for a few renegades and nomads, we are all that remains of the Myrsilkains..."
With a huff, and a sharp shake of his head, he responded, "Not dragons of your own kind! Dragons such as I, from other worlds and other races. Does it not stand to reason that what could affect one race could affect others? I am sure that no other dragon race would stand for leaving eggs of any dragon race in the hands of greedy humanoids."
Again the exchanging of looks, though this time slight hope lit the eyes of the two.
"Would it be possible? There have been several dragons slowly showing up one by one here..."
"Then increase the number! Do not let it be a slow trickle, actively go out and recruit other dragons!"
The female paced forward, before crouching down next to Ghyreon, so that her head was level with his body, "And would you, little one, go out and be one of our representatives? Would you assist us in our search?"
"Of course I would. I am Ghyreon, and I promise that I will gather all that will willingly come to your aid."
"Well met then, Ghyreon. I am Conjurer Vaelai, and my companion is Magician Oarlaer. We have both heard of a place that has two females on its sands, and has offered any and all the chance to see if one or two of the hatchlings wish to come home with them... would you...?"
With a decisive nod, Ghyreon gave his answer, "I can, and I will. Do not worry, Conjurer Vaelai, all will turn out well."
Vaelai smiled faintly, "Thank you. The place is known as Winya Yesteae."
