Zarilyna: A Mercenary Born

"Follow if you wish to live!"

Name: Zarilyna
Gender: Female
Rank and Class Lieutenant - Warrior
Species: Dragon Whorling
Color: Violet
Markings: Green feather crest, Purple claws
Personality:

Percieved as harsh and hardened by those who have to deal with her only occasionally, Zarilyna fits right in with the rough and tumble group of Warriors in the Devyrs. She has a wicked sense of humor, a nasty habit of getting even at unexpected times, and the ability to outdrink everyone but Vikktor himself. She has made herself "one of the guys" despite being a female in a profession dedicated mostly to males.

To outsiders, Zarilyna seems to be an incredibly harsh person, sharp tongued and vicious without percieved cause, worse than most mercenaries ever are. To those within the company, though, they long ago realized that Zerilyna's harshness is just a result of an incredibly dry sense of humor, a sharp wit, and a habit of vicious sarcasm that few can see through. Her true saving grace (in the company's mind) is her honest care for those under her, and the health of the company in general. It's no mistake she's a Lieutenant in the company - she knows how to get things done with the least danger, and keeps tabs on the Warriors under her command, making sure that nothing is wrong with them, both physically and emotionally.

Much like Flikk and Vikktor, Zarilyna was actually born a human, before losing herself in the Whorl. Unlike them, she's completely adapted to her form, because she's lived in it for well over a decade.

Description:

As a whorling, Zarilyna is only around 6' tall at the shoulder and a bare 12' from nose to tailtip. Her hide is a simple violet in color, as are her wings and belly scales. Her claws are a red-violet color, her eyes are sky blue, and she has a crest of green feathers that she can raise and lower at will. Her tail is short and flexible, and her body is swift and agile enough to keep up with Flikk even when the Specialist Captain pushes himself fast enough to lose everyone else in their company.

In her humanoid form, Zarilyna is a bare 5'6" in height, short compared to the rest of the officers in the Company. Her skin remains the same soft violet color, her eyes retain the same sky blue color, and her hands and footpaws are still tipped in sharp, red-violet claws. Her crest of green feathers changes into long, green, feather-like hair that hangs down to mid-back. She still retains her neck and belly scales, though, giving her armor that few expect because of how well they blend into her skin. Her tail is relatively short and flexible, and strong enough for her to use as a lash in battle.

She wears an upper-body wrap for modesty's sake (though she has very little to show there, because her chest is covered in scale-plates), and also to add a bit more protection, as she has studded leather that she can strap on top of it. Her arms are often covered with simple armor that ties together, linked into a leather collar she wears constantly. For pants, she wears soft leathers, held up with a heavy leather belt, from which hangs her two light swords. As with all of them, her dragon footpaws are tough enough (and oddly shaped enough) that she prefers to go without boots.

History:

Born to a mercenary and a camp follower, Zarilyna fought her way into the ranks as a little child, reasoning that being a warrior was better than being a camp follower any day. She learned early on that she had to exploit every advantage she had in order to get anywhere in life, and so trained every second she had to gain the edge she needed.

She made a name for herself as a rough and tumble warrior, capable of getting into any fight and getting out not only alive, but as the victor. She also showed an uncanny knack for command, an ability to rally the troops around her when things were looking bad. Because of this, she rose in the ranks fairly swiftly, making lieutenant at age 20, and vice captain at age 25.

In fact, if things hadn't fallen apart so dramatically, Zarilyna would have swiftly been the Captain of her band of mercenaries. But as it went, her company was hired to clean some outlaws out of a batch of ruins, and found much more than they bargained for.

The "outlaws" turned out to be renagade elites from the previous ruler's personal guard. The two companies traded blows for weeks, neither gaining a pure advantage over the other. Things would have remained at a standstill... except that the elites found what they were looking for in the ruins. A massive crystal, capable of ripping a hole in the fabric of the world. They unleashed this power upon Zarilyna's company, wiping them from the world.

As far as she's aware, she's the only one who survived. Though "survived" is a relative term, considering that no one who knew her previously would be able to recognize her. She was found and cared for by Haart, and when Flikk and Vikktor asked Haart to join them, it was Haart who pointed them in Zarilyna's direction as another one to join their cause.
