Size: | Small 4'0" tall at shoulder, 16' long from nose to tailtip |
Personality: |
Kinai is one of the most intimidating members of the Devyrs, both in appearance and in personality. His dark humor and habit of grinning almost evilly makes many uncomfortable around him, and he doesn't try to reassure them in the slightest. In fact, Kinai enjoys the uncomfortable, sometimes fearful, attention. He's devious and conniving, and is a master at getting what he wants, usually for free (or nearly so). Mage he may be, but thief is his true profession. His main saving grace is his loyalty. Wherever Flikk leads, rest assured that Kinai will be there, if not first, then close enough to make no difference. He owes Filkk his life, and thus will do everything within his power to make Flikk's plans succeed. Kinai is another who was once a human, and is now a whorling through a trick of fate. Much like Flikk and Vikktor, he is having to adjust to life in a different form, though he's found many things about his new body that he prefers over his old one. |
Description: |
In his dragon form, Kinai is barely 4' at the shoulder and 16' long from nose to tail-tip. His hide is a glittery, icy blue-white, and he has a crown-like crest of the same ice-blue-white, studded with eight tiny turquoise ice colored horns. A sharp crest proceeds down his spine and nearly all the way to his tail-tip, also in the same turquoise ice color, he has three distinct horns on his head in the same color, and his eyes are a deep maroon in coloration, with no whites showing. He also has belly scales that fade seamlessly into his body. In his anthropomorphic form, Kinai regains very close to his original human form. At 5' in height, he is the smallest of the Devyrs, and his body is slender and lithe, flexible enough to contort himself into a ball. His skin remains the same ice blue-white of his dragon form, and his belly scales blend as seamlessly into his skin in this form as they do in his dragon form. His horned crest is replaced by a fall of striped ice blue-white and turquoise ice hair, though the ridge that runs down his spine and onto his tail remains in miniature. His eyes retain the same deep maroon color, his hands are tipped with turquoise blue claws, and his digitigrade legs end in delicate dragon paws with large turquoise blue claws. His tail remains the same, though gaining a bit of flexibility, useful for balance and as an impromptu weapon. Kinai wears dappled ash gray clothing that covers much of his skin, leaving only his human-like face and a bit of his neck exposed. His hands and feet he wraps with strips of dappled ash gray cloth, so that only his fingers and toes are exposed. Even his tail is covered. He wears a thin belt, from which hang two sai and a few throwing daggers. More throwing daggers are secreted about his person, and his outfit has many hidden pockets and places where he can secret stolen items. |
History: |
A streetrat nearly from birth, Kinai can no more remember his mother than he can remember if "Kinai" is actually his real name, or just some strange street slang that was applied to him. He was picked up by a group of thieves after attempting to pickpocket one of the group members. He spent much of life, from about five years of age to about fifteen, as part of the thief group, learning both the roof walk (breaking and entering) and pickpocketing. By the time he was around fifteen, he was the main hunter in the group, the one who brought home the most loot, and the one who almost solely dominated the roof walking in the group. But his luck finally ran out. He broke into a mage's house, and was trapped by a spell. When the mage woke up and found him, hanging caught like a fly in a web, the mage was amused... and fascinated by the fact that Kinai, thief that he was, was an untrained mage. Kinai had fallen in with another, rather unsavory crowd. The mage taught him only enough to keep Kinai under his control, and proceeded to use Kinai and his strength to achieve his own ends. Keeping in mind his thief training, Kinai snuck into his new "master's" library whenever possible, teaching himself how to master his own magic, now that he conciously knew he had it. After another five or so years, Kinai finally felt he was strong enough to rebel. His rebellion, though, was timed such that his sudden wresting of power and control from the old mage sent a spell awry, opening a portal into a swirling pool of chaos that enveloped the entire house. As far as Kinai is aware, his old "master" didn't survive the journey. Upon waking, Kinai set about mastering the new form he found himself in, figuring that there was little he could do besides adapt and survive. |
